Welcome to Discovery Toys

IMG_7557

I have some exciting news.

After a lot of research and careful consideration, I have officially become a Discover Toys Independent Educational Consultant.

Why Discovery Toys? I’m a big fan of Mastermind toys and find that Discovery Toys is pretty comparable. Discovery Toys have been around for 35 years and are a premium quality, kid powered, learning product for children.

I am personally invested in finding the best products and gifts for my friends and family. This is an excellent fit for me.

Never heard of Discovery Toys, you can check out the entire catalogue here: www.discoverytoys.com/happytoys. Very soon, I’ll have some paper copies of the catalogue that I would love to share with you. Please contact me if you would like a copy when they come in.

If you would like to host a toy party, let me know. We can gather your friends and family to help you earn rewards towards Discovery Toy products.

I am always looking for events in the Ottawa area to be a part of. If you know of an event where I would be a great fit, please contact me.

But what about Buskins Leggings and the 6 AM shop?

I am still an affiliate for Buskins Leggings and will continue to promote and sell their product (I still love their leggings) through my Facebook page and groups. This is in addition to what I already do.

The 6 AM Shop still exists, but purchases will now only be able to be made using my online Facebook page shop. In the last couple of months, I’ve noticed that most of my traffic comes through Facebook rather than my website. To cut costs, I have put my online shop on hold and purchases can be made through Facebook only (click on SHOP).

Another reason I am very excited to join Discovery Toys, is that they have a lot of incentives and goals that you can reach for sales. I really enjoy goal setting and feel like I have something to work towards. If you are interested in learning more too about becoming a Discovery Toys consultant, please let me know.

So, that’s it for now. I’m pretty motivated to do this. Exciting times ahead.

  • I’m getting ready for the Great Glebe Garage Sale. I have a great spot reserved near 1st Avenue (right at the entrance of the Glebe Collegiate). Come out and check us out. I’ll have everything from my 6 AM Shop and much, much more. I can also take orders from the Buskins site on-site too. I accept cash, PayPal, EMT and all major credit cards.
  • Speaking of the 6 AM Shop, I may or may not continue having an online shop (www.sixamshop.com) and might just stick to the Facebook shop. It seems that most of my sales come from in-person and Facebook. Still thinking about it. Do you think an online shop is necessary for me?
  • I’m looking into other direct sales opportunities. I love being a Buskins affiliate (here is the info if you would like to be one too), but I want more. There are a variety of great DS companies out there, I just need to pick one that I believe I’m a right fit. Which one are you with?

Sorting your baby clothing

The Great Glebe Garage Sale is quickly approaching and I’ll be there will all of my 6 AM Shop stuff. In addition to the stuff from my online shop, I’m putting aside clothing and housewares for the sale. I want to make a really good “booth” for potential customers.

One thing I’ve focused on the last couple of days, is going through baby clothing that is too small for Katie. So far I have 5 bins of clothing to sell/giveaway. It took me a while to get here. I had a hard time deciding how to sort though my baby clothing and decide what to keep, toss, donate, sell? In the end, this is the formula I used:

Keep

  • Anything that was handmade or given to me from my parents or in-laws. I love that we had a lot of clothing that my husband and I wore.
  • Anything that I can remember the girls in. It may be a pair of sweatpants or halloween costume. If I can remember one of them wearing it a lot, I hung on to it.

Toss

  • Anything with stains (poop, food, formula, etc…)

Sell

  • Very rarely I’ll find something to sell. Mostly sleep sacks, very pretty dresses, jackets. Those of the kinds of things I’ll drop them off for consignment.

Donate

  • Everything else. I’ll give it to friend, who will then hopefully give it to another friend and another friend.

The GGGS is an exception to my donation and sell rule, whatever doesn’t sell I’ll donate.

What’s your formula for sorting through baby clothing?

Two Events This Weekend

This weekend, I have two events that I’ll be at.

Today, I’m testing out my vendor table set up for this weekend’s sales. Saturday, I’ll be sharing a half table with my girlfriend that sells Scentsy and Sunday, I’ll have a table to myself.

I’m trying to decide what to bring to each event. I won’t have a lot of room to bring all my items on Sunday and I’ll have Katie with me at each event, which can make setting up challenging. I would really like to bring Molly too, but that might be unrealistic.

Are you planning on attending either event? Any special requests on what I should bring with me?

Check out my shop here.

Thank You Constance Bay

Tonight, I’m feeling very thankful for living in such a beautiful, generous community.

My daughter Katie isn’t great in her car seat. Going into town takes a lot of planning around nap time. Sometimes I win, sometimes I don’t. It’s very difficult. I’m still doing my best to take part in things outside of our little community, but it’s hard.

Having a child that hates the car seat has forced me to find amenities and vendors in the area and I’m so thankful I did.

To date, I have found:

  • A hairdresser (Kara) that does a great job with colour and cut. Isabelle thinks she’s great and she will come to my house to colour and cut my hair to make it easier for me.
  • Just around the corner from my house, I found a lovely woman named Barb (she owns the All About You Spa), who I had the pleasure having a mommy & me pedicure done the other day.
  • For Mother’s Day, I was given a lovely gift basket made by Nancy who makes scrubs and soaks that smell lovely.
  • There is a great team of lovely mommies and daycare providers that organize the Constance Bay Playgroup. I am so appreciative of this playgroup. It keeps the girls and I busy a few times a week.
  • From attending the local playgroup, I learned about Scentsy which now makes my home smell beautifully and Buskins Leggings (that I sell now).
  • Our little Constance Bay garage sale and donation Facebook groups have helped me find a variety of items from formula for Katie, clothing for Isabelle, to clothing racks for my future vendor markets. I’m so appreciative of the generosity in this community.
  • For Andre & I’s anniversary, since we can’t go very far, went to the new thai restaurant in the Bay.
  • Since I’ve become a Buskins Affiliate, I’ve also become more aware of markets, organized community garage sales and fairs that happen in the area. We’re so fortunate to have so many great events happening around us.

I just wanted to say thank you, to everyone for making this community great. I feel very thankful to be living here.

Business Post Update

This week, I’ve worked really hard at getting the name of my online shop out there. It’s not easy starting out, especially when you have very very limited free time. I’m motivated though and I’m really enjoying this. I’m learning a lot and hope to continue my 6 AM Shop for a longtime.

I’m been trying to find strategic ways to get my business name out there. Here are some ideas and things that I’ve done so far:

  • Goal setting: I try to set myself a weekly/monthly goal for sales. I’m happy that I hit that bar this week and will keep trying week after week.
  • Facebook: I find that there are a lot of direct sales ads on Facebook. I’m trying to find way to post interesting and engaging ads that will hopefully bring people to my site. It’s still a work in progress.
  • Wearing the product: Wearing Buskins leggings is easy. I love them.
  • Flyers: I’ve created flyers that the girls and I hand delivered this week to a few houses in Constance Bay. So far, it has increased the views on my site, but no extra sales from it.
  • Catalogue: Buskins came out with a small catalogue. I’m going to drop a couple off in strategic areas in my area.
  • Sign up for vendor fairs, markets and events: Check. I’m working hard to get my name out there and putting together a beautiful vendor booth.
  • Networking online and offline: I created a new Facebook group called Ottawa Vendor Events. I’m hoping to connect vendors and event planners looking for vendors in one place.
  • Word of mouth: This has been the most effective, since those who have the leggings, love them too.

This continues to be a huge learning experience for me. I’m loving every minute of it. If you have any more tips and tricks, please feel free to share them with me.

Thank you.

Thank you to everyone that came out to this weekend’s sale. We had a great time. The weather was nice, the kids loved playing outside and it was fun to sell some of my products.

My next sale is in 3 weeks in Kinburn, ON. I hope you can come out and see me there!

I couldn’t make earrings, because Isabelle ate all my gummy bears

We’re busy getting ready here for the big sale this weekend. We’re participating in the Clean Up The Bay event by having a garage sale and mini vendor sale. I thought it would be a great opportunity to get to know our neighbours and to sell some of our used and new stuff.

I had a lot of big ideas on what I wanted to sell in addition to my Buskins leggings, but unfortunately a lot of my deliveries haven’t shown up yet. So I’ve improvised.

Sea Glass Vases

I wanted to make some of my sea glass vases to sell, but realized when I put them in the dishwasher to clean the ones I did, all the paint came off!

Gummy Bear Earrings

I wanted to make some good ol’ gummy bear earrings to sell. I used to make them all the time and sell them on Etsy… but that was a TBK (Time Before Kids) and Isabelle ate all my gummy bears.

Recycled Crayon Hearts

I love this simple craft. Something about taking off the crayon paper I find therapeutic. I made these yesterday and they turned out great. I’m trying to decide what to sell them with or to just sell them alone. They’re really cute. I tried to follow nautical colour palettes to keep it with the theme.

I’m trying to think of something else to add to my table that I could do on short notice. Any ideas?
