Day 19 – The first song alphabetically on your iPhone

I don’t even really like this song. It must be one of my husband’s picks.

My September (New Years Eve) Resolutions

IMG_1567 Let’s talk about resolutions. Are you a September or January type resolution maker? Do you get excited every January to write down your resolutions and open them up again December 31st or do you look at the past couple of months in August and try to make things better?

I would like to consider myself to be more of a September resolution maker. Every August, I start thinking about things I would like to do or learn this year. This feeling to make resolutions every September probably comes from getting ready to go back-to-school. Some resolutions I’ve made in the past are: I’m going to make new friends, study more, get better grades, etc…

This September, I would like to write a successful blog, get rid of clothing I don’t wear or need, get to  know my collegues a little better, be a great mom to my daughter and teach her some pretty cool things. I also want to nail down the afterwork choas and make them better, because omg! I can’t keep living like this. I would like to get myself back to the gym. I haven’t been in a while and I’m really starting to feel sluggish about this.

Do you make resolutions in September? What’s on your list?

Day 18 – A song I love but rarely listen to

I love love love this song. I really don’t listen to it enough. Consider it officially added to my August YouTube playlist.

DIY Maternity Leave Calendar – Google Calendar

Before I left on maternity leave, I had this romantic idea of all these great things I was going to do with my daughter*. We were going to go to:

I had a super long list of things I wanted to do while on leave. Did I do everything? No! Of course not. I had a baby to take care of! BUT I did do a lot of things. My goal with this maternity calendar, was to put all these great idea of things I could do in Ottawa in one place.

By creating a “maternity leave” calendar it helped give me a good idea on what I wanted to do that week or even that day. Some days are easier than others with a baby. Some days you’re up for bundling them up and heading out the door, while others you couldn’t even be bothered to get out of your pyjamas.

As some of you might know, I’m a huge fan of Google Calendar. My husband and I have used it for years to sync our calendars together. Google also has a great ability for syncing my Google Calendar right to my iCal on my iPhone. It works seamlessly and also helped us avoid a lot of conflicts for double booking events.

This post has two parts.

First, let’s teach you how to set up your Google Calendar and learn how to create an extra calendar with your Google account.

1)      How to set up your Google Calendar (must already have a Google Account) to sync with your iPhone.

2)      How to create a new calendar with your account. I am recommending creating a “maternity leave” calendar that is private, so that you’re husband isn’t flooded with all these great events.

Second, here is a list of great places in Ottawa (mostly west-end) that I added to my maternity leave calendar:

Do you have any idea of other activities you could add to a maternity calendar? Something that happens once or a few times a week that new moms can do with their little ones (drop in style recommended).

If you have any questions on how to set this up, please contact me.

* I think these moms had the same idea (here, here, here and here).

Why I couldn’t donate blood.

A couple of weeks ago, I thought it would be a great idea to donate some blood to the Canadian Blood Services. I found a clinic, picked a day and got ready to roll up my sleeve, only to find out that I couldn’t donate blood, because I had gotten a tattoo within the last six months. Bummer.

So hopefully to avoid this happening to someone else, I just wanted to remind readers to check the basic eligibility page on the Canadian Blood Services website before heading out.

Happy donating. 🙂

Day 17 – A song that makes you want to dance

Here are a few songs that if I’ve had a bit much to drink, I would totally be one of those white girls yelling “OMG! I LOVE THIS SONG!” and doing one of these super amazing white girl dance moves (beware of language).

Day 16 – A song that makes you cry

You can hear it in his voice that he’s struggling. This song doesn’t make me cry, but it makes me very sad.

Many music videos tend to be about escape and illusion — the illusion of fame, wealth, sex, glamour and fantasy. The video for Johnny Cash’s “Hurt” isn’t about any of those things. It deals with a theme not so common in music videos: reality. – MTV

Frugal Living: #kraftdinnerhack #cheeseburgerKD

On Monday night I tweeted “What’s for dinner?” and got no response. I was hoping that someone would give me some inspiration to make something super awesome for dinner.. negative. So, our household Masterchef my husband got a little creative in the kitchen.

We used 2 boxes of original Kraft Dinner and added:

  • Lean ground beef (lightly seasoned with salt and pepper)
  • Kraft Singles
  • Yellow onions
  • Dill pickles
  • Optional: Ketchup and Mustard

It was my idea, but his creation. It was so good. So good, it was probably bad (also because we added Kraft Singles to the mix).

Here are a few pictures of our #cheeseburgerkd

Mmmmm… What kind of #kraftdinnerhacks do you do in your household?

Day 15 – A song you love singing along to

If I ever was forced to get up and do karaoke, this would be my jam:

But this song comes in a close second:
